Hiroshima Day 2

We walked through the Peace Memorial Park for a second time
on our way to the Peace Memorial Museum
(This is the Gembaku Dome again)

Paper cranes and messages of peace
from around the world at the Atomic Bomb Hypcentre
(This is where mom thought I was taking pictures
with some random Japanese tourists...hmmmm)

The visit to the Museum was emotional and informative.
Too bad the weather wasn't cooperating!

Before leaving Hiroshima we ate okonomiyaki.
Okonomiyaki is an Hiroshima specialty. It is kind of like a pancake with egg,
bacon, cabbage and your favourite ingredients!
I added cheese to mine, Mom and Carla added kimchi (spicy Korean cabbage)

I think Carla tasted something 'fishy'

Mmmm...okonomiyaki! (say that 10 times fast)
The restaurant was really crammed and there was a
huge line to get in when we left!

Hiroshima Day 1

After Iwaki (and a brief, rainy stop in Tokyo)
we took a 6 hour Bullet train ride to Hiroshima.
On the way Carla and I discovered the wonderfulness of
hot coffee in a can- from a vending machine!

The search for the best vending machine coffee-in-a-can was on!!

Our first full in day in Hiroshima was sunny and bright so we started it by visiting Miyajima!
Carla made friends with the wild deer.

This 'floating' red Torii Gate is a very famous image of Miyajima.

Miyajima is also home to Itsukushima Shrine.

We took a cable car to the top of the mountains on the Island.
What a gorgeous view!
Too bad the monkeys weren't around.

Mmmm more coffee in a can. This one's called Deepresso!!

After Miyajima, we strolled through Shukkei-en Garden.

Carla had to get some squat toilet practice in!

Our feet were in pain, but walked from the gardens to Peace Memorial Park.
It was the perfect end to our first real day of sightseeing!
