Day 8: Singapore- through the eyes of a local
Wow what an unexpected surprise! Paul (the singaporean ex alt from last year) was gracious and sacraficed his time to give Logan and I a tour of Singapore.
He picked us up at the hostel in his spiffy car at 8am to start the day. The first stop was breakfast in a very local open air Indian cafe type place. Logan was brave and tried the 3 min soft boiled egg and soy souce specialty local breaky and I had toast with butter and this green jam type stuff. yum!
The colonial district and harbourfront was next. We saw the theatre, the opera house and had a great view of the harbour and the Merlion. Paul provided the important historical facts as well his personal view of singapore over his life. We took a cable car from Mt. Faber to Sentosa island and posed for pictures infront of the Sir Stamford Raffles statue.
We had lunch at Prima Taste cafe on Orchard street and Paul made sure to order all his favourites and local specialties.
I hadn't seen Paul in over 6 months but the day was confortable and relaxed and I believe he was truly happpy to be sharing his country with us. Logan and I were extremely thankful.
What a fantastic day!

I am reading Bryce Courtneys book Four Fires he spends a lot of time dealing with wwll and the way the Japanesse totally defeated the Australians and alies at Singapore can you please look into any details for me.(memorials etc.) love reading all about your trip, say hello to Logan. Love Dad
Dinner was wonderful at Citrus at the Grand Hotel with Dad, Loraine, David and Jim. I had the lamb of course, and Jim had this mushroom soup that was just awesome. Mike and I are off to Stratford for a funeral in the afternoon (one of Mike's close family friends son passed away unexpectedly, not completely sure what of yet). Then we are going to head back to Mom's to ring in 2006 with Gene, John, Gail Wright and some other of her friends. It will be nice, I couldn't bear the thought of staying in Stratford and welcoming 2006 with a funeral reception. Then back to Stratford on Sunday jan 1 for Mike's mom's side x-mas (good thinng gas is free, thanks Molson). Hey did I tell you I got my new van, brank spanking new Dodge Caravan Stow & Go? Yesterday Mike dragged me to about 7000 furniture stores to "look" at stuff for the house, if I go into another furniture store with crazy sales people with matching ties or shirts that follow you around..but pretend not to..I might snap. We have a good Idea of what we want so as the date rolls closer we will have to actually "buy" the items (that's the part I like). Anyways HAPPY NEW YEAR (almost that time for you). Cheers to all new family adventures in 2006 (yeah for you coming home in 3 months!!) Love you xo
